DPS seizes drugs and over $100,000 in cash during I-40 traffic stop

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized more than $110,000 in cash and a small amount of marijuana Saturday, after a Texas Highway Patrol trooper stopped a vehicle in Carson County.

At approximately 12:19 p.m., a DPS trooper stopped a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado traveling west on I-40 near Conway, for a traffic violation. The trooper then discovered multiple plastic-wrapped bundles of cash inside a backpack in the rear passenger seat.

The driver – Ricky Smith, 49 – and passenger – Troy Jennette, 47, both of Greensboro, North Carolina – were arrested and charged with money laundering. Smith and Jennette were transported and booked into the Carson County jail.

The cash was allegedly being transported from Greensboro, North Carolina, to Los Angeles.
