Potter County Sheriff’s Office warns residents about phone scam

The Potter County Sheriff’s Office has received information that an unknown person(s) have been calling Potter County residents claiming they are members of the Potter County Sheriff’s Office and the resident has failed to show for a jury summons and a warrant has been issued for their arrest.

Here is how the scam works:

1. The caller asks the residents for personal information such as their full name, address, and date of birth.

2. The caller / scammer then instructs the resident to purchase a Green Dot or similar money card which will be used as payment to release the warrant.

3. The resident after having purchased the money card, is instructed to give the security code off the back of the card and the scammer is then able to access the funds.

4. The scammer is instructing the residents to purchase money cards in various amounts.

This is a scam attempting to gain personal information and money. The Potter County Jury Services and the Potter County Sheriff’s Office will not ask for any kind of payment over the phone.

The Phone number being used by the SCAMMER(s) is 806-370-5136 and 806-318-4119.
