Woman hospitalized after Wednesday morning shooting

Wednesday morning, Amarillo police officers were sent to the 1400 block of N. Jefferson on an aggravated assault.

Responding officers made contact with a 30 year old woman who had sustained what appeared to be one gunshot wound in the upper body. She told officers that the shooting happened at a home in the 1500 block of N. Jefferson.

After she was shot, the woman walked to a home in the 1400 block of N. Jefferson for assistance. Officers have not determined if she knew the people at that home.

The woman informed officers where the shooting occurred. APD officers went to that home and made contact with a 52 year old male resident. They determined that he was a suspect in the shooting and have detained him for investigation.

The man has not yet been booked into jail and therefore his name cannot be released.

The woman was transported to the hospital by ambulance. At this point her injury is not believed to be life threatening.

Investigators are working to determine the facts and circumstances leading up to the aggravated assault. They have established that the man and woman knew each other before the incident.
