Fire at Amarillo Gear Company causes $100,000 to $200,000 in damage


Thursday afternoon, the Randall County Fire Department was dispatched to Amarillo Gear Company located at 2401 W. Sundown Lane in reference to a structure fire in the furnace room of the business.

Upon arrival, Randall County requested additional units from the Amarillo Fire Department and Canyon Fire Department. In all, 10 Randall County units, 7 AFD units, and 1 CFD unit responded to the fire.

Firefighters were met with heavy smoke and fire at one of Amarillo Gear's furnace units. The building's fire suppression system and attack crews were able to bring the fire under control at around 1:03 pm.

Reports indicate that the quench oil behind and underneath one of the furnaces caught fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Amarillo Gear's safety crew.

No injuries were reported and damages are estimated to be approximately $100,000.00 to $200,000.00.
