Lady Buffs defeat Tarleton State to claim 14th LSC Tournament Title

The No. 23 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M finished off a wild four-day stretch with the program's 14th Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship on Sunday afternoon as they outlasted the fifth seeded TexAnns of Tarleton State, 80-66 at Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas. Junior guard Megan Gamble picked up Tournament MVP honors while Lexy Hightower and Tiana Parker were named to the All-Tournament Team.

West Texas A&M was led offensively by Tyesha Taylor who went 8-of-10 from the floor with 16 points followed by Lexy Hightower (15), Megan Gamble (14) and Madison Parker (10) in double-figures. Tiana Parker led the way defensively for the Lady Buffs with six rebounds and six blocks in the victory.

Katie Webster led the way for the TexAnns as she went 5-of-14 from the floor including 8-of-11 from the free throw line with a game-high 18 points followed by Mackenzie Hailey with 14 and McKinley Bostad with 10, Webster finished just one board shy of a double-double with nine rebounds.

The Lady Buffs went 13-of-29 (44.8%) from the floor in the opening half including 4-of-10 (40%) from behind the arc and 7-of-8 (87.5%) from the free throw line with 18 rebounds (seven offensive, 11 defensive), nine assists, six turnovers, five blocks and five steals.

Tarleton State finished the first half going 12-of-31 (38.7%) from the field including 3-of-8 (37.5%) from deep and a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe with 16 rebounds (eight offensive, eight defensive), five assists, seven turnovers, no blocks and three steals.

WT finished the game going 29-of-52 (55.8%) from the floor including 7-of-14 (50%) from behind the arc and 15-of-19 (78.9%) from the charity stripe with 33 rebounds (10 offensive, 23 defensive), 20 assists, 16 turnovers, nine blocks and six steals in the win.

The TexAnns went 23-of-62 (37.1%) from the field including 5-of-15 (33.3%) from deep and 15-of-21 (71.4%) from the charity stripe with 31 total rebounds (18 offensive, 13 defensive), 12 assists, 14 turnovers, no blocks and eight steals on the afternoon.

The Lady Buffs claim the LSC's automatic bid into the NCAA Postseason as they will learn their first round opponent tonight during the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Selection Show starting at 9 p.m. CT via an online broadcast on WT will make the program's fifth straight and 24th overall appearance in the NCAA Postseason where they hold an overall record of 35-23 to register the sixth most tournament wins in Division II History.
