Man arrested for auto theft and burglary


Monday morning, a Amarillo police officer was dispatched to the 2600 block of SE 22nd on a burglary of a garage and a stolen vehicle. The owner parked the 2000 white Buick car in the garage over night and it was missing the following morning.

The keys to the vehicle were left in the garage with the vehicle. Several tools were also stolen from the garage.

Early Tuesday morning, the stolen vehicle was spotted by police in the 4400 block of South Washington Street. The officer stopped the stolen car and the passenger ran from the vehicle.

The driver, 24 year old Joshua Vasquez, was arrested for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. Officers have not located the passenger who ran from the scene.

All of the tools stolen in the original burglary were recovered and returned to the owner.

Several other items were found in the vehicle. Some of the items were tracked down to an auto burglary of an unlocked vehicle in the 1000 block of Pagoda and some of the items were tracked back to an auto burglary in the 3900 block of Arden Road.

The remaining items were booked at the police department.

Vasquez was booked into the Randall County Jail on two counts of Burglary of a Vehicle, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and No Driver’s License.
