Weekend motorcycle accidents leave one man dead, another with life threatening injuries

Late Saturday afternoon, Amarillo police officers were dispatched to a motorcycle crash in the 800 block of northwest 24th Avenue.

Thomas King Jr., 49, had been eastbound on NW 24th at a high rate of speed on a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle. King struck a 2007 Saturn 4 door, that was driven by a 27 year old female.

After striking the car, King lost control of the motorcycle and hit a retaining wall. King was pronounced dead on scene.

Justice of the Peace Thomas Jones has ordered an autopsy. King was wearing a helmet. Speed is a factor in this crash.

Saturday evening, officers were dispatched to an accident involving a motorcycle and a motor vehicle at south Bell Street and Puckett Drive.

Gary Wayne Price, 55, was driving his 1985 Honda Motorcycle north on Bell Street. A 2010 Ford SUV, driven by a 58 year old female, was stopped facing northbound on Bell in the left turn lane to make a left turn onto Puckett Drive.

Price attempted to pass the Ford on the left by going into oncoming traffic, but his motorcycle struck the Ford. He was taken to a local area hospital with life threatening injuries.

Speed is a factor in this wreck. Price was not wearing a helmet.

Both incidents are being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.
