Over 100 pounds of marijuana seized after I-40 traffic stop

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized 128 pounds of marijuana, Monday, July 23, after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Carson County.

At approximately 9:48 a.m., a DPS Trooper stopped a 2003 GMC Envoy traveling east on I-40 near Conway, for a traffic violation. A DPS canine arrived at the scene and alerted on the vehicle. The Trooper then discovered multiple packages of marijuana inside metal boxes concealed within all four tires.

The driver – Martin Ponce, of Los Lunas, New Mexico – and passenger – Jose Castillo, of Albuquerque, New Mexico – were arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana. Ponce, 50, and Castillo, 43, were transported and booked into the Carson County jail.

The drugs allegedly were being transported from New Mexico to Arkansas.
