Brothers arrested for Eskimo Hut burglaries

On Thursday, July 27, 2018, the Eskimo Hut at I-27 and McCormick Road in Randall County was burglarized just after 2:00 AM. Eskimo Hut representatives estimated the burglars stole approximately $7,000 worth or tobacco products, cigars and cigarettes.

Randall County Sheriff’s CID investigators arrested two brothers yesterday at a residence on Michael Road in rural Randall County who were charged with this burglary.

Kenneth Eugene Slavens, 60, was charged with:

1) Burglary of a Building – Bond $25,000
2) Possession of Controlled Substance, PG 1 – Bond $7,500
3) Violation of Parole warrant – No Bond

And, Gerald David Slavens, 58, was charged with:

1) Burglary of Building – Bond $25,000

The Slavens brothers broke into the business and were captured on the in-store video system. Deputies in the Randall County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division developed leads using social media as the suspects were attempting to sell the tobacco products.

Deputies set up a sting to purchase cigarettes and were instructed to go to the residence on Michael Road. They found the suspects were still in possession of a large number of cigarettes and cigars. Other evidence tying the Slavens brothers to the burglary was also recovered.

The burglary on July 27 was the third time the business had been hit since June 2018. The Slavens brothers are suspects in all three of the burglaries.
