I-40 traffic stop leads to discover of meth inside tires

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized more than 50 pounds of methamphetamine on Sunday, July 29, after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Oldham County.

At approximately 7:25 a.m., a DPS Trooper stopped a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling east on I-40 near Vega for a traffic violation. The Trooper then discovered multiple bundles of methamphetamine concealed inside all four tires.

The driver – Gary Ragan, of Wendover, Utah – and passenger – Michelle Leach, of El Paso – were arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. Ragan, 35, and Leach, 29, were transported and booked into the Oldham County Jail.

The drugs allegedly were being transported from Alamogordo, New Mexico, to Oklahoma City.
