Shooting in North Lubbock leaves one person dead

Detectives with the Lubbock Police Department Persons Crimes Unit are investigating a fatal shooting in the 2800 block of Baylor Street Wednesday night.

Just after 7 pm Wednesday, Lubbock police officers responded to reports of shots fired near North Detroit Avenue and Baylor Street. Officers located two male victims on scene. Gabriel Rodriguez, 36, had serious injuries and was later pronounced deceased at University Medical Center. The second male had moderate, non-gunshot related injuries.

Additional LPD patrol officers along with Persons Crimes Unit detectives and investigators with the Texas Anti-Gang Center (TAG) responded to the scene to immediately begin an investigation.

Preliminary information gathered by officers indicates the two victims had gotten into a fight with a male suspect just prior to the shooting.
